Trust Chem Europe and REACH

Trust Chem – WE COLOR THE WORLDREACH
Within our industry companies are responsible for providing information on chemicals, and the risks and safe use of chemical substances that are manufactured or imported in the EU. Under the REACH regulation companies register this information. So far, thousands of most chemicals and the most commonly used substances have been registered. European consumers can now ask their suppliers whether the goods that they buy contain dangerous substances. REACH stimulates the development of safer chemicals and restricts the use of most of the hazardous chemicals

When REACH is fully in force, it will require all companies manufacturing or importing chemical substances into the European Union in quantities of one ton or more annually to register these substances within the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) in Helsinki, Finland. This agency has set three major deadlines for registration of chemicals. In general these are determined by tonnage manufactured or imported, with 1000 tonnes per annum being required to be registered by December 1st 2010, 100 tonnes per annum by June 1st 2013 and 1 tonnes per annum by June 1st 2018. In addition, chemicals of higher concern or toxicity also have to meet the 2010 deadline.

About 143,000 chemical substances marketed in the European Union were pre-registered by the December 1st 2008 deadline. Although pre-registering was not mandatory, it allowed potential registrants much more time before they have to fully register. Supply of substances to the European market which have not been pre-registered or registered is illegal (known in REACH as "no data, no market"). As mentioned above, the final registration (> 1T per year) needs to be completed before June 1st , 2018. In other words this deadline is approaching fast and definitely needs to be considered when starting new development projects.

Trust Chem and REACH
When Trust Chem Europe was founded on August 1st , 2008, priority #1 was to start the REACH registration process. From that moment on Trust Chem has been working in the frontline on registrations for their organic pigments. A team of experts have been fulltime involved and they reformulated all raw materials and intermediates to REACH (EINECS) compliant types.

So far 43 organic pigments have been fully registered representing approximately 265 different Trust Chem products. Over 200 substances have been pre-registered, representing about 80 pigments, and the goal is to fully register the entire Trust Chem product productfolio. The advantages for our customers:

• No need to reformulate with the 2018 deadline coming near.
• Saving valuable lab time.
• Trust Chem as your reliable partner for security of supply.
• Avoiding risk of impurities
• Commitment to all aspects of safety through the supply chain

Together with Trust Chem into the future
Our customers can rely on Trust Chem as the secure and reliable long term supplier and business partner. Not just because of the fact that our REACH policy is clear, transparent and secured for the long term , but also because of our broad range of products with the highest possible quality standard.

Pigment yellow 155 for plastic applications

TCY15501 is a greenish yellow pigment with a high color strength and good fastness properties.
TCY15501 is recommended for use in various plastic and master batch applications including toy applications. In high-density polyethylene (HDPE), TCY15501 colorations (1% TiO2) can be exposed to temperatures of up to 260°C for five minutes without changing color. TCY15501 has a thermal stability of up to 260 °C according to DIN 12877. Recommended applications include polypropylene and styrene, but exclude polyesters.

TCY15501 is compliant with the purity requirements of the German BfR IX, the Italian Decreto Ministeriale (DM) 21/3/73, the European Toy Norm 71-3: 2013, European Resolution AP(89)1, EU Directive 94/62/EC, U.S. CONEG Toxics in Packaging Legislation, EU Directive 94/62/ EC, EU Directive 2011/65/EC (RoHS), and it is also listed on the French Positive List.

Pigment yellow 155 for ink applications

In water based printing inks, TCY15501W and the more opaque TCY15502 can be used for all printing techniques. These pigments are especially indicated for printing inks used on food packaging, as PY155 is characterized by extremely low primary aromatic amines (PAA lower than 10 ppm), and does not release any of the 22 prohibited aromatic amines listed in EU-Directive 2002/61/EC [Regulation (EC) No 552/2009 of 22 June 2009 amending regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH)]. Its color shade is slightly greener than the European Scale for Process Printing. However, it has good fastness properties and is even soap and butter resistant.

TCY15501W is a greenish yellow pigment with a high color strength. It has been specially developed for water based ink applications that use no binders, for example in applications for tissues and wallpaper. In these applications TCY15501W has become the industry standard.

TCY15501W and TCY15502 are both compliant with the purity requirements of the German BfR IX, the Italian Decreto Ministeriale (DM) 21/3/73, the European Toy Norm 71-3: 2013, European Resolution AP(89)1, EU Directive 94/62/EC, U.S. CONEG Toxics in Packaging Legislation, EU Directive 94/62/ EC, EU Directive 2011/65/EC (RoHS), and they are also listed on the French Positive List.

Pigment yellow 155 for coating applications

The more opaque greenish yellow pigment TCY15502 is also recommended for use in paints.

It exhibits excellent fastness properties and is suitable for overcoating in baking enamels. As it offers better weather fastness than chrome yellow and diarylide pigments in both full shades as well as white reductions, it is recommended as a replacement, also due to its greater hiding power. TCY15502 is generally used in industrial finishes developed for commercial vehicles and agricultural equipment. In paints, TCY15502 pigment can withstand temperatures of up to 180°C.

TCY15502 is compliant with the purity requirements of the German BfR IX, the Italian Decreto Ministeriale (DM) 21/3/73, the European Toy Norm 71-3: 2013, European Resolution AP(89)1, EU Directive 94/62/EC, U.S. CONEG Toxics in Packaging Legislation, EU Directive 94/62/ EC, EU Directive 2011/65/EC (RoHS), and it is also listed on the French Positive List.
